About Cedars Childcare...
Currently, the UK faces a severe shortage of foster carers, leaving many children in residential care. This often means they're placed far from home, schools, and support networks. The unintended consequence is that these children, who could thrive in a family setting, become accustomed to institutional life. This can make them less suitable for foster care later, perpetuating a cycle that strains local authority budgets.
Cedars Pre-Fostering has developed The Meadows, Leicestershire's first residential care home specifically designed to prepare children for foster care. Our mission is to create environments and provide support that reduces institutionalisation and actively prepares children to transition into loving families.

Purpose-Driven Home Each home will have a Staement of Purpose and Function that explicitly states the mission of the home: to support children's transition into foster care. This clarity guides our staff and creates a focused environment.
Transition-Focused Environment We'll foster a culture that actively prepares children for family life. Staff training will emphasise the importance of building relationships, promoting independence, and teaching essential life skills.
Targeted Support Programs Our staff will work one-on-one with children to address any behavioural, emotional, or educational challenges that might hinder their transition. This includes life story work to help children understand their past and embrace their future.
Educational Emphasis We believe education is crucial for successful foster placements. We'll actively support children's engagement in school and provide additional academic support as and where needed.
Partnership with Foster Care Providers We'll collaborate closely with foster care agencies to ensure a smooth and supportive transition for each child. This includes joint assessments, shared planning, and ongoing communication.
